708d8a296ded3036773cbf5bba998456Exhibit: Needle & Loom: Pioneer Women of Lake County at Royce Hall Gallery –  Lake Erie College – 391 W. Washington St., Painesville, OH

Feb.9 – Mar.4, 2018

The exhibit will include LCHS artifacts such as quilts and coverlets, clothing and furniture, and tools for spinning and weaving from the pioneer era of Lake County (1800 to 1850). A unique addition setting it apart from all other quilt exhibits will be the fabulous textile art pieces from the Western Reserve Spinners and Weavers Guild.  These local artists have taken the skills of our pioneers and brought them into the 20th century.  Modern art pieces will complete the story told in the play presented by Rabbit Run and in the historic artifacts from the Lake County Historical Society.  (Free admission. Gallery is open to the public daily.)

The exhibit is being underwritten by Blakely Insurance.

Quilters postcard_Page_1The LCHS exhibit complements Rabbit Run Theater’s new musical “Quilters” at Lake Erie College’s C. K. Rickel Theatre – 391 W. Washington St., Painesville, OH.

Story by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek; Music & Lyrics by Barbara Damashek; Directed by Brint Learned

A rich & heartwarming mosaic, “Quilters” captures the sweep and beauty, the fear and joy and the harsh reality and abundant rewards of 19th century frontier life.  A pioneer mother and her six daughters illuminate the stories of their lives in various patches with music, dance and drama all the while creating a beautiful quilt of human dignity and steadfastness in the face of adversity.

The printed program for the play will also include stories of Lake County pioneer women researched by the Lake County Historical Society.  Many artifacts in the LCHS exhibit will relate to these stories.

Tickets for the play will be $20.00 for adults, $18.00 for seniors, and $10.00 for students; and can be purchased through rabbitrunonline.org or purchased at the door.  Performances of the play are February 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, March 2 and 3 at 7:30 pm or February 11, 18, 25, and March 4 at 2:00 pm.  The free exhibit will be open for viewing during regular college hours.  More information: 440-428-5913.
